Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Bella Amaral began her artistic career in dance, studying Classical Ballet for over 13 years.

As a child she was intrigued by movement and the aesthetics of the body.  Her curiosity led her to explore ways to capture this in her drawings. Since 2010 she has worked as an illustrator on several publications.

In 2013 she decided to bring her art to the streets of Rio with the goal of combining these disciplines.  She has also participated in various projects in Brazil giving workshops to teenagers and kids living in impoverished communities.

Bella is currently based in Oporto, Portugal where she shares a studio with her husband Justin Phame. Together they have a collective called BellaPhame and are developing a new body of work combining their styles.
